If you read “How I Survived Construction Zone Living During our Kitchen Remodel Part 1,” I hope you’re as excited as I am to share with you Part 2. If you haven’t read Part 1 yet to see all the before kitchen photos, you can find it here.
Part 2
Welcome to Part 2. I was so excited when the walls were coming together in the kitchen and we were starting to see some progress. I mean, seriously, at this point I was planing meals and getting our entertainment schedule booked. I wanted it done pronto. Well, I soon hit the brakes on planning when the hubs said it would still be a good month at this point.
It’s All In The Details
The finishing out of the details were very time-consuming. Shiplap had to be made, painted and hung, sheetrock and then tile, flooring, and last but not least, cabinets, fixtures, and appliances. It was fun at this point because the 10-year vision was coming to life.
If I Had A Hammer
“If I Had A Hammer” was a song I could NOT get out of my head, literally, because I could hear the relentless pounding in my head 24/7 (I dare you not to sing that song now).
I did learn to install hardwood flooring, though, and actually enjoyed this process.
There’s just something invigorating about swinging a hammer to let out all your kitchen-remodel frustrations; am I right?
Finally, a Kitchen To Be Proud Of
We did have to reach out to friends to help move in the massive stove, but, finally, we had a kitchen to be proud of. All the hard work and quite literally the blood, sweat and tears have paid off. We bought this stove two years before the first hammer was ever swung in the kitchen. It sat in a crate in the garage and the day it moved into the house, I couldn’t stop doing a happy dance.
Open Concept Open Shelving
In my mind, open concept also meant open shelving.
I love the fresh open feel of these shelves.
The white dishes are easily accessible and they showcase a collection
of some of my favorite ironstone pieces.
That’s A View
I might be a little biased, but when I sit in my living room and look in the direction of the kitchen, all I can say is, “That’s a view.” I could not be happier with how everything turned out. Farmhouse at it’s finest is what I was striving for and it definitely satisfies my love-for-country-kitchen goals.
There’s just something about farm sinks and fluffy white pups.
This farm sink can be found here.
Would I Do It Again
When I think back, I do find myself asking, “Would I do it again?” The ol’ “if I’d known then what I know now” The answer is yes. It’s like childbirth. Well, okay, kinda/kinda not. But Seriously, once it’s all said and done, you soon forget about not having a kitchen for 4 months. Living without water and washing dishes with the garden hose quickly become a thing of the past.
We went from this...
To this…
A million times YES.
Let the dinner parties begin.
My door is aways open.
XO –
Kristi

That’s a pretty big remodel, Kristi! Love how your kitchen turned out. Definitely pinning for later as whatever house we buy next I’m sure it’ll need a kitchen update. 🙂
Hugs,
Barb 🙂

Hi Barbara, It was a never-ending remodel but definitely worth it in the end. Thank you sweet friend.

Oh my heavens…that before and after! And…the sink is gorgeous, but the pup really makes it! Are you still pinching yourself when you walk in it? Makes doing the dishes a joy I would imagine.
Have a great day,
Hugs, Lynn
Kristi Bissell says
Thank you so much Lynn. I do pinch myself every time I walk in. It’s so great to have a place the family can hang out in when the kids all come home. I appreciate you reading all about it. Have a great day!

That is quite a big transformation Kristi. I really like the exposed brick it adds so much color and character to an otherwise perfect room!
Kristi Bissell says
Thank you Mary. We knew the brick was behind the wall before we tore it out but had no idea what kind of shape it would be in so it was a nice surprise to know that we were going to be able to keep it. I’m so glad you stopped by.
Maureen says
I am suffering from a bit of stove envy over here! That is a thing of beauty!! Seriously though you have done an amazing job and I love everything from the stove to the sink, and the exposed brick! Gorgeous!
Kristi Bissell says
Thank you Maureen. It was pure torture knowing this stove was sitting out in my garage in a crate for two years before we brought it in the house. Thanks so much. You’re the sweetest!
