Fall Table Decor – Ideas for your Fall Tablescape

I knew that showing you all my fall table decor this year would prove to be a challenge because our never-ending remodel has now moved into the dining room where new hardwood flooring is being put down so that room is currently out of commission.  However, getting an opportunity to work with an amazing group of ladies on this blog/IG hop was a no-brainer and I knew I was up for the task.

Pick a color palette

First things first, when beginning your fall table decor, pick your color.  Before I started, I needed to decide if I wanted to stick to the traditional rich colors of oranges, reds and browns that just seem to come with Autumn or if I wanted to go for something softer.  While I LOVE these traditional colors and usually decorate with them every fall, this year I was looking to flex my creative muscles and go for something softer.

Mad for plaid

For me, plaid and fall just seem to walk hand-in-hand, don’t they?  Cozy flannel plaid blankets around a warm bonfire are what I imagine when I’m thinking of cooler weather.  I wanted to incorporate this same feeling into my fall table decor.  While I didn’t have plaid placemats, I improvised by purchasing a yard of flannel fabric at Walmart and cut it in two to simulate the look of blankets draped across the table.  No sewing, nothing, which is great for this can’t-even-sew-on-a-button kind of girl.  If you’re having trouble deciding on your fall colors, stroll the isles of your nearest fabric store and browse the gorgeous plaid fabrics.  I’m positive one will jump out and grab you.  Let that be your anchor for the rest of your table.   My rich navy plaid serves as a backdrop for the lighter hues of  blues and greens in the centerpiece.

Centerpiece

The centerpiece for your table should be the focal point and it doesn’t have to take a lot of time.  Sometimes those last-minute centerpieces are the best.  However, if you do have some extra time and want to get the faux pumpkin look like I’ve created above, check out an earlier post where I showed you how to create these beautiful cinderella pumpkins out of orange Dollar Store plastic ones.  If you’re on a budget, like me, real pumpkins can prove to be costly and only last a few short weeks.    I was so happy with how they turned out, I knew I wanted to use them in my tablescape.  By adding some faux greens, cotton and some candles, you’re giving the space texture and dimension.  I even wrapped my candle with one of my fall-inspired BoHo Beads which adds visual interest.  I like to think it says “elegant farmhouse.”

Showcase your style

So, whether you are planning a large gathering or a simple table for two, make your fall table decor all about your style.   You don’t need a large dining room table to begin.  I  created this space at our kitchen island and it turned an ordinary, casual eating area into a formal dining event.  Your guests will feel extra special just by adding simple, personalized touches like place-setting cards that reserve their spot.  I used mini chalk boards found at my local craft store for this project, but a fun alternative is to gather leaves from the yard and customize each one with a paint pen.  Plate chargers, napkin rings and grapevine wreaths complete each place setting.  Consider letting each guest take home their napkin rings, which are mini BoHo Beads, to use as a wine bottle charm or even pumpkin jewelry.
