Using Tobacco Baskets in Your Spring Decor

Spring is a great reminder of how beautiful change can truly be…a change in your decor, that is.  There’s nothing like starting off a new season with a fresh decor palette and this season, why not start decorating with one of Hobby Lobby’s tobacco baskets.

They have really given a new look to this all-time favorite farmhouse piece and I guarantee, you’re gonna love it.

If you’ve strolled the aisles of Hobby Lobby recently, you have no doubt found yourself wondering through their spring shop section which is where you will find the new tobacco baskets.  The spring shop consists of aisles and aisles of decor elements that will inspire you to create a new vignette or two.  First, pick out your favorite tobacco basket as your anchor piece and go from there.

In fact, my haul consisted of a multitude of new spring decor.  I had to climb up on a chair for a bird’s eye view just to photograph it for you guys.  I couldn’t wait to get home and start styling, so let’s go…

I couldn’t decide on just one tobacco basket so I picked up two;

the metal woven and white woven.  I love  the texture that each one of them creates.

First Things First…

So, first things first.  You need to find the location that will be the focal point for your spring vignette.  For me, I decided on this small shiplapped wall in my kitchen.  It’s tall and narrow and the fact that it butts up right next to the old brick chimney will give the space more interest.

Next, I hung the baskets vertically like this to draw your eyes up.  I wanted you to really take in BOTH baskets since they were each a different texture.

I next placed the vintage-inspired truck.  This piece caught my eye right off the bat.  Every time I look at it, my mind drifts beyond spring and how many different ways I will be able to incorporate it into my decor throughout the seasons.  It was definitely a win-win purchase.  I set the vignette on a base of rustic wood I found at a flea market, but don’t feel like you need to do this.

The bistro board, as I like to call it, is such a fun item.  I love using chalkboard pieces in my decor, big and small, because they can easily be changed up any time.  On this project I decided to use some permanent chalk markers.  PERMANENT you say???  Don’t get me wrong, you can use regular chalk sticks, but I just love the way these chalk makers write.  When I’m ready to change my chalkboard, I just scrub it with a household cleaner to get off as much as I can and then paint over the surface with a black acrylic craft paint and you’re good to go for a new message.  It’s a little more labor-intensive to do this each time you want to write something new on your board, but the smooth ink of the markers makes it worthwhile for me and this is a pretty small surface area to work with.

Once you get your sandwich board done, position it in your vignette and bring on the greens.   Greenery is like icing on the cake, isn’t it?  It’s the cherry on top and Hobby Lobby has the best selection of greens in their floral department.  I am loving the seeded eucalyptus they have in store right now.  I bought 4 stems and then went back and bought 4 more.  I can totally justify it as often as they have their 50% of sale.  This is why I have ALL THE HEART EYES for Hobby Lobby.  There is always a sale going on.   And if it’s not this week, you can just wait til the next.  Or, if you absolutely can’t live without it, like me most of the time, there’s always a 40% off coupon you can grab to use on one item.

But, back to the eucalyptus, I thought they were a perfect match with the hydrangeas I found there as well.

And just like that, with a few simple items you’ve created a spring vignette sure to brighten up any space.

Not Just For Hanging

But, the tobacco baskets are not just for hanging.  You can move the same vignette to a tabletop for a different look and use the basket as a catch-all for your greens like I’ve done below.  Try setting them on your kitchen counter to hold your favorite fruit.  Be as creative as you want ’cause there’s so many possibilities.

So if you want to take your farmhouse look to the next level, these tobacco baskets are sure to be your favorite spring decor.  Post your photos over on Instagram and tag @hobbylobby and @thepickledrose so we can see how you use them in your spring vignettes.

Happy decorating.
