Outdoor Room Ideas

OUTDOOR SPACES

Whether you have a front porch, back porch or anything in between,  it’s easy to use these outdoor room ideas to discover how you can living spaces that everyone can enjoy.  You don’t need a big southern wrap-around porch to give your home great curb appeal and leave neighbors waiting for an invite.

One of my favorite things about our home is the amount of useable outdoor space that is really just an extension of the inside.   Creating an inviting area your friends and family will want to congregate to is oftentimes as easy as a weekend project.

To begin, when we purchased our home, it was beckoning a front porch swing.  I could imagine sitting there with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine catching up with the neighbors as they walked by.

ADD ACCESSORIES

However, even if you don’t have a big enough porch for a swing,  try adding rockers, chairs or even a stool to offer seating.  Adding big, oversized pillows and blankets to a swing or front porch rockers will definitely make things feel cozy and bring softness to the space.  Your guests will want to curl up and stay awhile.  Adding accessories like this lemon bike pillow I fell in love with this summer will bring out your personal style.  You can  Check it out here.

BoHo Beads

Black and white stripes are always classic.  I like carrying this theme throughout all my outdoor spaces.  Try adding a pop of color, like yellow, and it really gives it a summer vibe.  I plan to incorporate this theme throughout when I switch out the summer decor to fall.

Also, by adding live plants to a space, it creates dimension and life.  I like using ferns since they are a low-maintenance plant, but you could easily add your favorite as well.  Try adding sheer drapes if you can to step up the ambiance.  I bought mine for next to nothing at Walmart right here.   As inexpensive as they are, you don’t have to worry about destroying them in the weather.  They can easily be replaced each year if need be.  Try adding a DIY welcome sign, also, to give your home added curb appeal.

Next, if you’re visiting my home as you head out to the back of the house, we have different areas where we spend a lot of time.  We added the screened-in porch and patio about five years ago and it has truly become an extension of our home.  Once again, adding your favorite oversized pillows and blankets are an easy way to make the space more inviting and livable.

Also, something to keep in mind when you’re planning your outdoor space is create different conversation areas as a great way to break up a space.  Try styling separate areas for lounging and dining.  We created this bar-top table from an old door along with a couple of porch posts.  It was an easy DIY that didn’t require any skill on my part.     It’s a great place to sit and watch the birds, or if you’re hosting a party, wouldn’t this make a great bar area?

SIMPLE SHADED SPACE

Abba Patio Umbrella

This space invites you to come and stay awhile. An industrial spool serves as a table and full-sized rockers make the space more casual.  Carry the black and white stripes throughout with pillows and throws.

To add shade, I added this cantilever patio umbrella from Abba Patio.

I love how it provides protection and keeps your sun-conscience guests  comfortable.   The coverage it provides is amazing and the umbrella height is adjustable.  They have a great selection of umbrellas, patio furniture and accessories you’ll be sure to want to check out.  I added the mini mason jar lights from Walmart for a fun addition for nighttime ambiance.

The best advice I can give you for creating outdoor spaces is take your style from inside your home out.  Turn your porch into a living space you’ll want to make memories in.   Our outdoor spaces really are an extension of the home.  All you have to do is create it, dream it, do it.
