Fall DIY Series – Week 4 Faux Fall Branches

With summer in our rearview mirror, I am full-on craving the fall season.  And not just the cooler temperatures, but also the beautiful colors of Autumn’s canvas.  Unfortunately here in Kansas, we still have a little while before we start seeing Fall’s color palette, however, I am so anxious to snip some branches from the trees and splash the color around inside.

Make My Own Rules

I like to think if I want something bad enough and can’t find it, I figure out a way to make my own rules.  If I can’t find the faux fall branches, I’m gonna make ’em and you can too.  This is by far the easiest DIY you’ve ever done.  Wait, where have I heard that before?  Oh, yeah, that was me.  Earlier this week when I was blogging about my fall napkin ring tutorial, I said the same thing.  Seriously, though, this may just be it.  Follow along and see for yourself.

Supply list

Three, that’s right, three supplies and that’s it!!  First things first, though, find yourself a tree limb.  We had a little storm pass through a couple days ago and when I went outside, a rather large branch had fallen from the tree and was laying in the yard.  Before I get rid of anything, even a tree limb, I like to rack my brain for things I can do with it.  It’s that DIYer mentality of mine, I think.  At the time, I just drug it across the yard and thought I’d get to it later.  Then a trip to Walmart gave me a great idea.  I passed these fall stems on an end cap and saw they were only $3.  I immediately thought of the branch laying in the yard, so I grabbed two bundles and headed home with my purchase and an idea in my head.

Multi-tasking

As soon as I got home, Mark asked if I wanted to watch a movie but I was anxious to get my DIY idea off the ground.  I thought, this is so easy, I can multi-task and do both.  So as the movie started playing, I laid out my purchase on the rug and began pulling off the leaves.  You don’t even need scissors for this one.  The leaves quickly snapped loose.

When I was satisfied with my pile of leaves,

I plugged in the glue gun and was ready to assemble.

The limb that fell from the tree was rather large so I broke off several pieces that would best fit this project.  I tried to imagine where the leaves would be naturally and just hot-glued them on.   Be careful, though.  This project is hard on your fingers.  You need to apply a bit of pressure to get the leaves to attach to the limb and it’s difficult to not burn your fingers with the hot glue.

Glue as many leaves or as few as you want.  This is all up to you.  I knew I would be putting them in a carboy container in my dining room so I glued a few and took a few steps back to observe it and then glued a few more.

And that’s it guys.  When fall isn’t quite ready to come to you, go out and grab it and make your own.  I hope you liked this DIY.  Thank you so much to all of you who are following along each week.  I love sharing my ideas and seeing your recreations.  Nothing makes me happier.  Now go out and make it a creative day.  See ya soon. XO
