Fall Home Series – Creating a Fall Mantel

Mantels and Shelves

Welcome to Week 2 of our Fall Home Series where this week I am sharing tips on creating a fall mantel.  I don’t know about you but Fall is my absolute favorite season to decorate, although Christmas is a close second, but for some reason, I have accumulated more fall decor over the years than for any other holiday.

Your Fall Mantel and a Master Plan

When I begin the steps of styling an area in my home, the creative process usually starts months before the actual holiday will take place.  I like to plan ahead and take mental notes, but those original plans almost always take a turn in a different direction when I’m in the final decorating phase.  This year I wanted to keep my fall decor very neutral, but that all changed when I saw the gorgeous colors of the heirloom pumpkins at my local market.  The soft brilliance of the orange was calling to me and I knew I would be incorporating a splash of this rich autumn color into the plan.

Pumpkin Pickin’

Why is it that my favorite pumpkins are always at the bottom of the bin at the market?   It never fails.  Every year you can find me going head first into the massive pile of pumpkins.  I’m THAT person you see with their legs sticking straight up in the air in the middle of the display trying to dig to the bottom to grab the perfect one.  I’m not sure any judge would give me a perfect score for my pumpkin diving, but my pumpkins were definitely perfect 10s.  I couldn’t wait to get them home and start creating my fall mantel.  If you’re wanting to get the look of heirloom pumpkins for a fraction of the cost, you can follow my Painted Pumpkin Tutorial here using Dollar Store plastic ones.

All Things Chippy

For those of you that know me, you know that I’m a 100 % certified farmhouse girl that LOVES all things chippy.  I try to add as much chippy to my decor as possible.  I understand it’s not a style that everyone likes, but for me it works amazing when I want to add texture to a space.  These vintage corbels give me ALL the farmhouse feels and are true vintage and not reproductions.  The lantern and vintage sugar mold also add character and charm.

Rosebud Audrey Box

The wreath and garland are definitely a bonus for my fall decor this year.  They can be purchased as an add-on to the Rosebud Box “Audrey” collection being offered by Purple Rose Home.  It is quite literally Decor To Your Door.  If you’re looking for a collection of fall decor pieces that can be purchased together that includes a recipe card of my styling tips, I would definitely check this out.  It is {AMAZE}ing.  You can learn more by going here.

Take a Step Back

Now that you’ve got your mantel how you THINK you like it, take a step back and admire your work.   More often than not if you’re like me, it takes several attempts to get it just how you like it.  I can’t tell you how many times I fussed and fussed over the placement of a single pumpkin or how the BoHo Beads were hanging.  And then, finally, I walked away for awhile and when I came back in the room, I knew I had it right when I said to myself, “My favorite color is fall.”
