Fall DIY Series – Week 3 Napkin Rings

Welcome to Week 3 of my Fall DIY Series.  You guys have blown me away with your amazing support and creativity these last couple weeks as you’ve followed along with my DIYs.  Keep tagging me in these series projects ’cause I love seeing your finished products.

Napkin Rings

Today we’re making napkin rings.  As a blogger and home decor enthusiast, I get so excited this time of year because it’s the beginning of a season where we get to make our houses “sparkle” a little more than usual.  It’s the start of pulling out all the stops for the holidays ahead.  It can, also, be a very hectic, stressful time and that is why I started this DIY series to share with you quick and easy ways to get your home prepared ahead of time so you can enjoy more of your family moments.

I can’t believe that I’m saying that Thanksgiving is just around the corner when September has just begun, but it’s never too early to start planning ahead and get some of your smaller projects out of the way.  Are you hosting the festivities this year?  Even if you aren’t, these DIY napkin rings are so easy and can be made in a few short minutes.

What You will Need

That’s it, guys.  Just five supplies is all you need.  AND, if you followed my hoop wreath tutorial from Week 1, you probably have Craft Paper and ribbon left over from that project.  Of course I love the buffalo check ribbon, but this is totally a personal preference so choose a ribbon pattern that you like best.

Cut To Size

Using your Kraft Paper, cut  3.5 x 1.5 rectangles,

one for each place setting.

You can see that mine aren’t even exact.

Eyeball it if you want to.

Next grab your hole punch.

One hole wasn’t big enough for

the size of my ribbon, so I did two.

You won’t even see this once your

ribbon is threaded through

so don’t worry about it

looking perfect.

Personalize

Now is the fun part.   It’s time to personalize your tags.  Think about what you want to say.  I chose “thankful” and “grateful” for mine, but you could even go a step further and use your guests’ names on each napkin ring.   This is where you can be as creative as you want.

Add Ribbon

It’s time to thread your ribbon.  I like to use wire ribbon but this is definitely not a must.  The wired ribbon will take on a little more shape but, as I said, it’s not necessary.  Cut your ribbon in approximately 7-inch strips.  Start from the back and thread one end of the ribbon through the paper rectangle.  Repeat this step on the other side.  Before you pull the ribbon tight, slide your napkin through to gauge the length you want your ribbon to be.  Depending on how tight you’d like your napkin ring to be, you may need to trim a bit off the ends of the ribbon.  I, then, cut both ends of the ribbon to give each side two tails.  If you’re using wire ribbon, you can mold and bend the ends to the desired shape.

Quick And Easy

I told you that would be quick and easy.  What did it take you?  15 minutes tops?  Now just repeat the steps for however many napkin rings your dinner party needs.  Because they are made of paper, you may only get one use out of them, but save the ribbon and just make new paper tags.  I like combining the buffalo check ribbon with the polka dot melamine accent plates that I got on the At Home Stores clearance rack.  The white metal chargers are from my favorite small shop, Curtis Creation.

Now, tuck your silverware in and

you’ve got a place setting waiting to happen.

Thanks so much for stopping by for another DIY.  You guys are the best.  Be sure and pin this to one of your boards so you’ll have it at your fingertips.  What fall DIYs would you like to see?  Leave me your suggestions in the comments below?  Happy crafting!
