Dinner In The Backyard

Today I thought it would be fun to share a simple outdoor dinner space I created right in my backyard to celebrate the end of summer.

Even though summer is technically not over until September 21, I’ll use any excuse to create a dreamy space for dinner for hubby and I.

What I love about this is, all of the floral decor came from my yard. Even if you don’t have flower gardens, all kinds of foliage are right outside your door for the pickin’. The already-existing window box was the perfect backdrop for this cozy setup in the backyard.

Dinner For Two

Large leaves are great for place setting markers. Even if it’s only dinner for two, personalizing each space with these leaves by writing the names of your guest with a paint pen or Sharpie are a special touch.

Casual Seating

For this particular backyard dinner party, I chose to use a coffee table versus a regular-sized table for more casual seating. To read about how I used a regular sized table for another dinner party, go here.

Adding fluffy pillows to sit on instead of chairs definitely made the backyard dining space. For instance, it just made the evening more cozy.

Consider using a drop cloth for a tablecloth. I like using these here. They seem a little stiff in the beginning when you receive them, but after washing and bleaching them just one time, they soften up so nice.

For The Love Of Buckets

I seriously have an obsession with buckets. The rustier, the better. Who’s with me? Simply put all your centerpiece clippings in a vase and then set the vase down into the bucket.

In addition, as the sun starts to go down, you’re going to want to turn on the string lights. I love using this brand right here.

I used two strands for this project and it was just the right amount of lighting.

Lastly, this entire setup can be done in your yard, too. Try spreading a blanket on the grass if you don’t have a patio and your backyard dining will be a hit with everyone.
